The Read and Dream Program leverages the power of sight word rich story collections with well loved characters, Pete the Cat, Big Dog and Little Dog, Elephant and Piggie, and Five Little Monkeys.  Students in PreK through 2nd grade can receive as many as 17 stories, depending on the reading level information that parents give us when they sign up.

STAIR shares your goal of seeing scholars confidently picking up their favorite book and reading independently.  STAIR can support you in that goal by providing books and literacy activities for your scholars and their families to engage with at home.

In addition to books, families will also receive activities and videos aimed at helping them learn routines to help their developing reading get off to a strong start, learning sight words, letter sounds, and reading strategies.

Many scholars don't have access to enough books at home.

What would happen if each of your scholars received 10 new, readable books from series like Pete The Cat, Big Dog Little Dog, and Elephant and Piggie and learned 100+ sight words?

You know that when scholars have access to engaging, appropriately leveled books in their home, they can read and re-read books. This increases fluency and vocabulary and creates familiarity with characters and stories they love. This is why STAIR of Birmingham is providing free books and free literacy activities for all Pre-K through 2nd grade Birmingham City Scholars. STAIR has served Birmingham City scholars for over twenty years by providing one-on-one tutoring for scholars that have been identified by their teachers as needing extra literacy support.
